Conference Workshop

Supporting Demand-Side Flexibility, Understanding and Overcoming Key Barriers to Development

The workshop will be focussing in the specific on Demand Response System Operability – a key for the future of power utilities – as large scale uptake of low carbon technologies may reduce system inertia, increase intermittency and requires increased flexibility. Work in this area focuses on the technical potential of loads, renewables and energy storage to provide flexibility to the system and the commercial arrangements and consumer incentives that are required to realise these opportunities.

Workshop Moderator: Joris Besseling, Principal Consultant

Why You Should Attend

Optimal R&D and Innovation, Smart Strategies and Improved VAS for Utilities

This marcus evans conference will cover, for the first time in Europe in a holistic manner, all the most pressing questions that Utilities are facing and struggling to cope with, providing real-life examples and case studies. Is it wiser to retain a focus on centralised generation assets or move to a mix of decentralised technologies? Concentrating the efforts on ‘upstream’ assets or customer management? Can Utilities expand their current offering to include device manufacturing supply, service control and increase smart home elements and serviced homes, whilst dealing with price packaging and new models? Is Europe going to look at increasing the use of virtual generators?

These are some of the questions that will be answered during the event, allowing our delegates to leave the conference equipped with the know-how to become trusted suppliers of essential services to their customers.

Market conditions in the European utility sector are at their most challenging in recent memory. The centralised, integrated giants, created following deregulation and international consolidation, are now witnessing their business models challenged by competition, political initiatives, regulation and structural changes.

These challenges can however be used to stimulate innovation and promote positive changes. Utilities have now the opportunity to use the current crisis to innovate technologies, products, services and business models, and most of all, reinvent themselves and the relationship they have with their customers.
