Why You Should Attend

2nd Annual Capital Modelling in Insurance

Now Solvency II has gone live, the industry is beginning experience the practical use of capital models, and in a market fragmented between internal, partial and standard models it is vital to understand the benefits and limitations of each approach. There will now be a shift from working towards compliance, to managing normal risk, with decisions being driven by internal, as well as regulatory, requirements. As the first wave of internal models has been approved, there is now a greater understanding of what is required, and what the benefits of using a bespoke model are. However, this approach requires large amounts of investment, in terms of both time and money, and so many institutions have chosen to use the standard model. Now that these models are in use, institutions will be beginning to consider making changes, in order to make the models work for business benefit as well as regulatory compliance, but this process is still not fully realised. Regulatory approval will certainly be needed for major change, but minor changes will aggregate over time until they are considered major and will also need approving. As Solvency II has gone love, the focus will be on embedding these capital models into the business as usual, optimising them not only for regulatory compliance, but for the benefit of the business as a whole.
